Company Loan Type APR Est. Pmt.

two accounts for same collection

Posted on: 16th Feb, 2010 11:03 am
ok I have found that I had not paid for a c.card back in 2003 which I intend to pay but the problem now is that it shows up twice on my report
one being the true c. card company and the other being a collection collector both show up only on transunion.
the card company has the right acct. # but Im guessing the collection agency has there on acct. # but I called and found it was the card.
so how can the same card be reported twice on teh report.
and do I pay the first national bank or the collection agency
thanks
This is very common. The OC may have sold the debt and reported a charge-off, and now the CA is reporting a collection. Or, the CA is just collecting on behalf of the OC, which can also result in both the CA and OC reporting balances on the same debt.

Since a CA is clearly involved, you'll need to work directly with them regarding payment. Even if you contact the OC directly, they'll likely just direct you to the CA.

joshua, although some of us can follow what you're saying quite easily, i suspect there are others who won't get your abbreviations as well. i agree with your premise, but i wonder if everyone's going to get what you're saying at all. thanks.

clay - getting the 2nd account removed or updated isn't that hard to do

like josh said ...you will need to talk to the collection agency since they now own the debt.

so do I need to dispute the oc snice the ca has the acct. now or what would be the best was to get the 2ed acct removed from the report and then pay the ca.

best way would be to negotiate a pay for deletion

you can dispute if the info is erroneous

so if I can get the ca to delete it then I just need to keep a eye on the oc and make sure it will ne deleted also ?

your agreement would be with the collection agency not the original creditor so the OC may not remove it

either way....1 negative is better than 2

so what your saying is even if I take care of the bal. on the old card Im still going to have one neg. on my report, I know one is better then two but if the card is taken care of then I dont see were I should have any from the one card I know its my fault but sometimes things happen that you cant control seems a little screwed up to me.

not saying you will but there's a high chance

Ok I been doing some checking and ran across this and was wondering if it was true.

(If you do pay the collection agency, you can contact the original creditor and tell them the debt was "settled" and they need to update your account to reflect this. Technically, they are obligated to do this, as this is the truth. For the creditor to NOT do this is a violation of the FCRA)
