Is the account disputed or removed?

My wife and I started reading about mortgage loans recently as we're looking to buy a home. I learned from a blog that you can no longer have a disputed account on your credit report and get approved for a mortgage. I lived most of my life overseas so I never checked my credit until I came back to the states when I was 24. When I checked my credit the first time two years ago I found that I have a collection for Comcast in 2007 for the amount of $30. As this can’t be the case, I disputed this account to EQ TU and EX, saying I have no knowledge of it. When I saw that you cannot have disputed account when applying for mortgage, I panicked and pulled my EQ report from this site. I cannot find the account anywhere in the report, it's as if it never existed. Is this account disputed or simply removed? If it is disputed, is there anything I can do right now to keep the mortgage from being denied?
Hi Bill,

You can request the credit bureaus to remove the disputed status from your credit report. As you have now noticed that the account is not mentioned in your credit report any further, it means that they have removed the account as it might have a wrong update on your credit report.

Take care.

Bill,

It depends on which bureau is reporting the collection and which bureau that you pulled your credit from. For example, if the collection is only reporting to Exp, and you pullled an Exp credit report 2 years ago, it would show. If you pulled your credit just now from TU the collection would not show, as the collection agency is only reporting to 1 of the 3 bureaus. Check into that. Other wise, may have been when you disputed the account the collection agency was found to make an error and removed the information from credit reporting bureau. If neither of those are the case, then you should contact the collection agency, let them know that you believe this is not your account, and you would like to pay it and get it removed from your credit. Tell them you want a letter stating before you pay, that once the payment clears in full, that the collection agency will remove the transaction from your credit report. Good Luck
