Posted on: 02nd Sep, 2008 10:32 am
The past few months I got behind with my credit cards 30-60days late and one charge off with a collection co. I joined a creidt counseling company. If I make payments on time for will improve my credit score. If I had to do all again I would of called the credit card company and worked with them because as I have found out they will work with you. Just trying to get the best plan to improve my credit score. Everything else has been paid on time, mortgage i.e.
Welcome drillboy,

I think if you pay off the debts on time, it will help improve your score. If your creditors are willing to negotiate with you, there's no need to enroll for a debt management program and seek credit counseling service. But the point is, will you be able to negotiate so that they allow you to pay according to what you can afford? This is important and here's where credit counselors at the debt management companies help you. So, it depends upon whether you can negotiate entirely on your own or you want someone else to negotiate on your behalf.

I would recommend that you negotiate with your creditors DIRECTLY.
There are a lot of credit counseling companies that don't make your payments on time, and YOU will be the one getting hurt.

Why pay another company to make payments for you?
SAVE MONEY, and negotiate with the creditors directly!

I agree with Banker.
There are so many credit counseling services that don't make payments to the creditors on time. And just because you are in credit conseling doesn't mean your creditor will agree to the terms and stop reporting you late.

Creditors want to get paid and they might be willing to negotiate with you the terms

It is always better to set up a payment plan directly with your credit card companies. If you want to know when your payment is being applied call your creditor directly and ask. Ask when your last payment was received and when it was applied.

Always read the terms of any contract you sign because the answers to the questions you have now were probably in that long affair with the 5 point font.
