Are lenders allowed to give a copy of my credit report to me?

Posted on: 16th Oct, 2008 11:37 am
My lender obtained a credit report on myself , they said they could give their report to me, I was always told I had to obtain a copy myself from the credit bureaus?
The report a lender pulls is for the lender only.

You should receive notification in the mail from the credit bureau giving you instructions on how to obtain a copy of your credit report. This notice also discloses your credit score. The statement made above also depends on what state you are in and the laws within that state.

Simply call the credit bureau's at the numbers located below and they will send you a copy of your report:

Trans Union: 1-800-916-8800
Equifax: 1-800-685-1111
Experian: 1-888-397-3742

How do you obtain a listing of the states that allow a lender to give you the credit report they have?

Hi Jeff!

Welcome to forums!

I don't think, the lenders are allowed to give the credit report to the buyers. If you want to get your credit report, it will be better if you could call up the credit bureaus at the number mentioned by Greg Phillips.

Feel free to ask if you have further queries.

Also, you are entitled to 1 free credit report per year and the site you order this from is http://www.annualcreditreport.com When you order the report it is done through each respository's site. You can dispute items on your report online as well.
