Re-aging debt

Posted on: 29th Aug, 2012 01:16 am
I had incurred several debts 5 yrs ago from a divorce that I cannot pay on disability and am waiting for them to fall off. Now it seems they have all re-aged, and the date it falls off is wrong. How can I get the correct write off date so that I can have these fixed? Should I contact the OC or CA?
You will have to send a 623 letter. It is a federal statute that protects a consumer's rights against credit lenders. It allows a consumer to question the accuracy of the credit information reported by the credit lenders to the credit reporting agencies. You can even find a sample letter in the given page: "http://irebuildcredit.com/623-letter/".

Hi Vendimore!

Welcome to forums!

You may also consider sending a DV letter to the collectors. They are not obligated to respond. If they respond with the info you have your dates. If not you have a more leverage to send to the credit bureaus in terms of a lack of validity.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

Hello Vendimore,

Re-aging an account is a double whammy because, it will appear that the debt is within the statute and the debt will stay on their credit report longer than it should and this will damage the credit score.
