Remove old negative status

Posted on: 10th Jul, 2012 01:06 am
I have a couple of student loans which were delinquent. I have been paying them as agreed for 3 years now on time. Is there a way that the creditor can remove the old negative status?
Hi Calvri,

As you have paid off the debts, you can write a goodwill letter to the lender and request him to remove the negative item from your credit report. However, it will be the discretion of the lender whether or not he will consider your request.

Thanks,

Jerry

Hi Calvri,

I agree with Jerry. Any negative item will stay in your credit report for around 7 years. Unless the goodwill letter is accepted, the negative item will remain in your credit report.

As per the rule, the negative items remain on your credit report for around 7 years. SInce you are reapying the debts regualring past 3 years, the negative impact is likely to remain in your credit report.
