Can I remove an old charge off from credit report?

Posted on: 15th Mar, 2012 02:43 am
I had a bank loan which I took many years ago and then it was charged off. The bank from which I took out the loan had merged with two different banks since then. The present bank says that they are not affiliated with the original loan. So, is there any chance I can write letters to the credit bureaus and have it removed from my credit report?
Hi Frankestine,

You can write a letter to the credit bureau and try to remove it from your credit report. You can explain your situation in the letter and also mention what the lender has told you. It will be the credit bureaus discretion whether or not he will consider your request.

Thanks,

Jerry

Hi Frankestine,

You can write letters to the credit bureau and try to get it removed from the credit report. However, you should also note that if the SOL period is over for such debts in your state, then your lender won't be able to take any legal actions against you regarding that debt.

Thanks
