Adding a name to a home/land deed

Posted on: 23rd Jul, 2008 10:40 am
My boyfriend of 11 years wants to get his name on the home we live in. It is in his mothers name (property next door is his, just in her name). What do we have to do to get his name on there too. His mom is ill & we fear the worst. We were told we need an attorney. I think it can be done with a quick deed claim. Please help.

yes, you can add his name with a quit claim deed. you can also remove her name with one, too. i defintely recommend talking to an attorney to make sure everything is in order. wish you the best with that.

oops, forgot to log in. Also make sure you talk to the attorney about the estate, a will and possibly a durable power of attorney.

Hi LindaMae.

Welcome to the forum.

I agree with Mike above that you can use a quitclaim deed bit it need to be signed by his mother as she the owner. And after signing the quitclaim deed she will no be the owner of the property. So is she ready to quitclaim her property?

Best of luck,
Larry
