credit card without any credit rating

Posted on: 10th Apr, 2006 02:52 pm
I don't have any credit rating yet. Can I get approval for a credit card under this condition?
Hi Deanna,

Yes you can have a credit card without any credit. If you are not given any chance how you will be able to establish a credit.

Although it is not very easy to get it for the first time, but you can give it a try and will get one with some of the companies.

You may apply to a bank or a credit union where you have a savings account. If you have a good record with the bank, the bank will issue you a cared with low credit limit. It will gradually raise the limit once you are found punctual with your payments.

If you are denied any card, you may build a credit history with a department store or may opt for a gasoline card.

Hi Deanna,

This is a question often asked by the newcomers to the industry. Don't worry; there are ways to get a credit card and to establish credit.

As Murphy suggested, you can contact your local bank and check whether you can manage one from them. You can try for a card from the local department store or a gas card. These cards are comparatively easy to get.

If you still can't get any on your own, get someone to co-sign for you. But whenever you approach for it check whether they report to credit bureaus. Otherwise it won't help to build your credit history.

Always make your payments in time as this will help you to build a good record and next time you won't be facing any problems in getting a credit.

God bless you.

Deanna,

You may not be able to qualify for low interest rates with no credit history, but you need to apply for the first one. Rates can be negotiated after sometime especially if you are never late with your payments, it won't matter much.

Yes, you can. There are banks who offer regular credit cards to people with no established credit yet, you can try applying to them. If you are finding it difficult to get approved, you can apply for a secured credit card option, as you might have a higher chance of getting approved. You just need to come up with a certain amount that will serve as both your deposit and your credit card's credit limit.
