Error in credit report!!

my credit report has lots of erors. how will i remove them?any advice?
Hi Jane
Welcome to the forums.

Let me assure you that you need not worry because of errors in your credit report. You should contact the consumer credit reporting agency to help you in this situation. This process will take 45 days or so. You should explain where the mistakes have been made and also submit photocopies of relevant documents which can prove that the information in your credit report is disputed.

You should also send a letter of dispute to the creditor whose reports you disagree with. You must look at a billing statement to find out the correct address for disputes. In case there is a dispute regarding personal information, like current address, you should enclose a copy of your driver's license or utility bill in your name for the verification of your residence.

The reporting agency will carry out an investigation to find out if there is indeed a dispute. It will check out with the creditor whether the information is erroneous. If the latter fails to verify it, the error will be removed soon. The agency will send you a fresh copy of credit report in case any changes are made. You also have the right to demand that a corrected copy of the credit report be sent to everyone who received the report during the past six months.

However, if the agency feels that the information is correct, it should provide you with a written notice regarding the name, address and phone number of the concerned creditor so that you can take necessary action.

We hope that this information will fulfill your requirements.

Please let us know if you have any other query.

Regards,
Caron.

Many people find errors in their reports; details on how to dispute such errors have been clearly described on the Federal Trade Commission's web site - http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre21.htm

You should contact the credit bureau and tell them about the errors in your credit report which have to be disputed. Complain them in written and enclose all copies of proof with it. Apart from this, send creditor all the copies of information that you have sent to bureau.

First of all, get the credit reports from the credit agencies. After identifying the errors, you need to write dispute letters to credit bureaus. After receiving your letter, credit bureaus investigate the disputed information. If they find that there are errors, in the next place they rectify those errors.

Ans. If you find an error on your credit report, you should send a letter notifying the credit bureaus of the error and request a correction in the old fashioned way with snail mail instead of online process so that you will have legal proof that you sought to correct your credit reports.
