My uncle and his wife co-signs for us they are not first time home buyers but my wife and i we are first time home buyers and my uncle and his wife will not be living with us. Are we still entitled to claim the $8000 tax credit?

Yes, since you are having the equity in home and you are first time home buyer, you will be benefiting by the tax credit if you are living there.
