I live in the state of Georgia and I need to know do you have to have an attorney to do quitclaim deed? I am divorced and my ex-husband is the grantor giving me the house. There is no money exchanged the house is paid for we want his name off the property.
you don't necessarily need a lawyer. it seems you've reached an agreement on what to do, so in my opinion you can simply acquire the quit claim document and move forward.

Hey cupchurch,

I agree with George that you do not need an attorney to to file a quitclaim deed. Quitclaim deed forms are available online. You can get hold of the form and fill it up. However, it is always better to draft the deed from an attorney. Once you fill out the deed, you can then notarize it and record it at the county recorder's office.

yes, if you and the ex have agreed on everything. then save the lawyers free and do it yourself. I buy my forms from Miller Davis , which is the place most lawyers go to for forms themselves. Fill it out, have him sign it, and then record it with the county's recorder office. Then you're done.
