hello. i live in ca, 4 years ago our house foreclosed we recieved the 1099 and went through the whole process. now, the second mortgage has been sent to collections and they just sent us a letter wanting us to pay the entire amount of the 2nd mortgage $54,000, plus $17,000 in intrest. i though all this was over. can they do that now? does anyone know what our options are? thank you for any help......
Hi John B

I'm also in CA struggling  to keep current on my 2nd MORTGAGE (HELOC) for a home I no longer reside in due to foreclosure 9/2009.

I read an article last year about a situation very similar to yours; About 4 years after a woman had gone through Foreclosure & filed for Bankruptcy, she started getting calls to collect on the 2nd mortgage. If it's within the Statute of Limitations for our state they'll attempt this.

If it's any consolation see this other topic to many posts through this web site. Under 'know-how', the topic is: second loan chargeoff

Good Luck. I hope we can all get some help!
