my lender has ran away without closing the loan - whats next....

The closing isn't over, so I hope you haven't paid any fees and even if you have made payments regarding the loan process, there is no way you can get it back. So, it's better that you look around for some other lender.

You can take legal action against the lender by consulting an attorney. But it will be effective only if you can trace the lender. If the lender is approved by HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development), you may file a complaint with the local HUD office.
