my mom died 11 years ago and i need to get the house in my name there is a mortgage on the house that i have been paying all these years in her name. i have a quit claim deed that a lawyer did for me but i dont know if he ever registered it he never told me a thing about what to do with it. i have been fixing up the house and do want it in my name the county sends me the tax assessment every year as the taxes are included in the mortgage and the tax assessment comes in my name what can i do to get the house put in my name i have been living in this house for 20 years now. any suggestions about what to do it is a big mess i want to put a roof on the house but should i and how do i go about it when i have to get the permits for that
As tax assessments come in your name then it means that the lawyer did file it, as the assessments come in the name of the owner of the property.

To be sure you can visit the recorder’s office in your county and check the property records.

To get the roof changed you should get in touch with a builder and discuss the expenses.

For repairing the roof permit will only be required if you would be making any type of structural upgrade or replacement. Permit will also be required if the new roofing material to be used is heavier than the present roofing material.

Such a thing happens when you change from a composite roof to a clay roof. But if you are not quite sure then contact the building department in your county.

Welcome Angelic.

Since the county is already sending you the assessments every year, therefore I think your name is registered into the county records as the property owner. This is because the property taxes are generally paid off by the property owner.

I shall suggest that you check from the county records whether your name is on the title to the property.

Thanks.
