Hi ahwright!
Can you mention the name of the company which has sent you the FHA loan acceptance personal ID number? If you haven't applied for a loan, then the company cannot force you to take a loan. I think you should immediately file a complaint against the company with the State Attorney General.
Thanks.

The name of the company is Advanced Financial Services, Inc.
arlene,
they are just a lender who has bought a mailing list from a direct mail company.
much of your mortgage information is part of the public record. these companies send someone to research the public records and then match it with other publicly available information such as phone records etc. and then sell the information to mortgage companies looking for clients. you would be very surprised to learn how public much of your private information is. both reputable and disreputable lenders use this method of searching for customers.
if they are offering fha loans, they are connected with hud and fha only in the respect that all lenders offering fha loans must go through an approval process with hud.
i would personally distrust just a little bit any lender that tried to fool you by making their sales letter appear to be an official communication from hud.
the best method of finding a lender if you have a need to refinance is through a personal referral if possible. even then, don't hesitate to talk with more than one before you make any decision.
