Can a Mortgage Company reject a partial payment?

Posted on: 10th May, 2010 10:52 am
Can a mortgage company change the contract that was signed by the original company without telling the buyer?

Can they reject a partial payment? I pay 1/2 at the beginning and in the middle. They tell me I have no grace period even though I've always had one.

I did not choose this mortgage company, Citi sold it without my consent to AHMSI and now I am learning all these rules after being with them for a year.
Kate, partial payments are generally always forbidden on a mortgage loan. That's no surprise to me. "No grace"?? That one I don't get.

Loans get sold all the time - there's nothing to prohibit it. You'll not have any good fortune in trying to pay as you have been. I work with AHMSI also, and haven't had any real issues, other than their 800 number being a murderous thing to try to navigate through.

why, i wonder, do all these places recommend paying your payment 1/2 at the beginning and 1/2 in the middle if the mortgage companies won't accept it that way? that is just weird.

anyway, on top of all, ahmsi nickels and dimes to death! try to pay fast by phone? there's a charge. try to pay online? there's a charge. try to pay by western union or money gram? charge! the only way to not get a charge is to mail a check that you cannot guarantee will be on time, which is what???? a charge again!!!!

i thank you for your reply. i am currently trying to figure out how to refinance with another mortgage company that won't charge me tiny little fees for everything. i have a problem that i lost my great job thanks to the economy a year ago and am only temporarily working with the census. no one is going to take over my loan if i don't have steady work... will they?

Hi kateperez!

Welcome to forums!

As you have lost your job, it would be difficult for you to qualify for a refinance now. The lender will not be able to verify your employment details. Thus, your current lender or a new lender will not be ready for it.
