Lost title on mobile home

Posted on: 18th Nov, 2007 06:41 pm
A friend purchase a mobile home and lost the title on this home. How can the title be replaced when she does not know the name of the person on the title. The mobile home should have a number on a plate but also unable to locate that. What can be done? Can anyone help.
Hi Lea!

Welcome to forums!

The seller of the property will be able to give the title to the mobile home. Once you get the deed, you'll have to record it with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Once you've the title of the property, you'll be able to get an insurance for the property.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

Welcome cutrell,

I haven't heard of any such rule which states that the DMV does not keep record of the mobile home titles past 10 years. I would suggest you to get in touch with an attorney regarding this issue and he will guide you as to how you can get a duplicate title for your property.

I'd investigate further with the state before seeking legal counsel. It's cheaper by far, for one thing, and I agree that it doesn't sound quite correct that the records wouldn't go back more than 10 years.

Your query is incomplete. It will be better if you write your query in details. It will help me as well as other members of the forum to give you some suggestions.

I jointly own my pre-manufactured home with my mother. She misplaced the title and I need it for tax rebate programs. How do I proceed to get a duplicate title? I live in PA.

Hi janehoffman,

You will have to contact the county recorder's office in order to get a duplicate copy of the deed.

Adonis, I suspect that titles to such properties are not kept in the land records, but just as with most, they're likely in the motor vehicle department's hands.

Jane, I hope you find your title - check with the state's motor vehicle department.

I have lost the title to a trailer that I and my ex-husband own. I am wandering what steps need to be taken to get a new title.

Hi emma,

You can contact the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and check out if they can help you in getting a duplicate title for your trailer.

Take care.
