What should I expect after I pay off my home loan/mortgage?

Posted on: 22nd Mar, 2008 08:50 pm
What sort of paperwork will I have to prove I own the house, free & clear?
How long should I expect to wait for said paperwork?
Where is the best place to store this paperwork?
Hi Daynarichards,

Welcome to forums.

Once you pay off the mortgage completely, the lender is expected to provide you with a Mortgage Release Certificate. The duration would depend upon the lender you're working with. After you get the certificate, you need to record it at the office of the County Recorder. Also keep a duplicate copy of the Certificate.

Thanks
