$8000 TAX CREDIT.

My wife is a first time buyer but I'm not. She can put the new house in her name and deed only. Will she qualify for the $8K tax credit? Even since we are married?
irs form 5405, which is the form you would use to claim a credit, reads as follows under the heading of: "Who can claim the credit"

"you are considered a first time homebuyer if:... you (and your spouse if married) did not own any other main home during the 3-year period ending on the date of purchase."

it looks to me like she'd not be able to do so.

Did you already buy the house?

If not, maybe wait a few months and see if the $8,000 tax credit is opened up to everyone, no matter if first time buyer or not. It has not yet been decided if the $8,000 will be continued as is or discontinued or ccontinued and opened to all buyers.
