I was told that most chattle loans for second homes require 20 percent down even for people with good credit. Is that true?

Yes, even if you have good credit, you will have to provide the lender with 20% down payment.

Not sure of any lenders doing chattel loans especially for second homes - I would find a lender first and then see what they require -
