How to keep bankruptcy a secret?

Posted on: 30th Jul, 2012 03:09 am
I'm planning to file bankruptcy as my creditor has filed a lawsuit against me. NONE of my family knows the predicament my husband and I are in and I've enjoyed keeping it that way. When it comes to finances they are a VERY self-righteous group. Has anyone had to deal with fall out from this? Am I worrying about the wrong thing??? I know it sounds petty. How do I keep it away from family’s knowledge?
hi denita,

bankruptcy is the last option to get rid of your debt problems. i donhink you will be able to keep your bankruptcy filing a secret. before filing bankruptcy, you should sit with your family members and discuss the whole matter with them and let them know what youe going through. rather than knowing from someone else, it will be better if you take the initiative and inform them. they are your family members and they will definitely understand you.

thanks,

jerry

Hello Denita,

Sound's so pity! However, why would you want to keep this a secret from your closest friends and relatives? Yes, it can be embarrassing and downright painful to file for bankruptcy. However, when we are hurting or facing mounting stress, that is the best time to confide in those closest to us. Telling our problems to others will help lift some of the burden.

Hi Denita!

Welcome to forums!

I agree with what Jerry has said. Rather than fearing what will happen, it will be better if you could contact your family members on your own and let them know about your bankruptcy filing.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

Discuss this with your family members. This can reduce your mental pressure somewhat.

I filed Chap. 7 almost four years ago and never told anyone in my family that I did. It was something I felt I had to deal with myself and it was really none of anyone else's business. I do want to mention that it is public record and will be listed in many search engines if your name is typed in as a search.
