Tax Refund After Bankruptcy Discharge

Posted on: 07th Mar, 2013 08:25 pm
Hi, I filed our taxes electronically on 1/31/2013. On Feb.1st a notice was sent to IRS that we have been discharged from bankruptcy, paid @ 100%. We are supposed to receive a refund from the IRS. It has been 5 weeks..Does anyone know how long it will be before we receive our refund. And will it be a paper check or will it be direct deposit (I chose this options when I electronically filed).
Just give a call to the IRS office. They will be able to tell the exact status.

Hi bcollier,

Well, it might take some time in order to complete the refund process. I don't think you should worry much. As Scot has suggested, it would be a good option to contact the IRS in this regard. If you have chosen the direct deposit option, then it will be directly deposited in your account.

Thanks

The IRS will send the check to your Trustee, who will then confirm your Chapter 13 has been paid 100%. After confirmation, your Trustee will endorse the check and send it to you. Then you'll endorse (because the IRS made it out to the two of you) and deposit it.
