Defaulting on credit cards in my name only. How does that affect spouse?

Posted on: 30th Jun, 2009 06:56 am
I have 3 credit accounts in my name only. The payments are up to date and I have no negative information. I will not be employed outside the house this year and I am wondering how defaulting on my 3 credit cards will affect my husband's credit (which is 746 score). It is critically important to us to keep at least one of us in a sound credit place? Will anything at all that has my name on it affect my husband's score...such as our house, which is solely in his name credit wise, but my name is on the deed.
Hi djrutledge,

If you default on your credit card payments, it won't effect your husband's credit as his name is not on the credit cards. You are solely responsible for paying the debts. You have mentioned that the property deed has your name. In such a situation, the creditor can place a lien on the property to recover the debts.
