Withold rent payments

Posted on: 13th Jun, 2013 12:31 am
I had this railing problem in my home that I rent. I had informed the landlord about the same. But he hasn’t worked on it and it has now broken down and I am at a danger. Can I withhold rent in this case?
Hi Guest,

Withholding rent won't be a good option. as you are bound by your rental agreement. You should write a formal letter to the landlord asking him to look into the matter. Let him know that it is a health hazard for you so that he takes immediate steps. Send him some photos of the railing.

Take care

Yes, you can inform about this condition of the house to the local housing authority, in case your landlord doesn't pay any heed to letter.
