Is the abstract for property on file at the courthouse, and also available to the public to read?
In most locales, yes.
What state are you in? In Oklahoma & Iowa, for instance, an abstract of title is a bound record of summaries of all the recorded real estate documents that pertain to your property. It is often kept by the individual, or may be in storage with a bank, title co., atty, etc.
