Adding New Spouse to Deed

Posted on: 22nd Mar, 2010 08:28 am
New to the forum!

I've recently married and have rental property in my name (no one else on the deed located in Lawrence County Ohio) I would like to add my husband to this deed however I have a few questions. :?:

1. would his ex wife be able to lay claim to ANY income generated by this piece of property IF he is put on the deed?

2. would his ex wife or my stepson be able to lay any claim to this piece of property in the event something would happen to myself OR my spouse or both of us?

3. if the answer is unequivocally NO to the above 1 & 2 questions what is the best way to add him to this deed?

Thank you
Hi wardd,

As far as I can understand, your husband's ex-wife will not be able to place any claim on the property if you add him to the property deed. The step son will not be able to claim anything from your share of the property. As far as your husband's share of property is concerned, he can lay his claim.

You can add your husband to the property with the help of a quit claim deed.

Thanks
