add name to deed

Posted on: 19th Dec, 2011 03:15 pm
I want to add my daughters name to the deed to my home. I own the house outright, so no mortage companies are involved. I dont want to go through a lawyer as he is very expensive in our small town. What form/s do I need to fill out?? Thanks
Hi Laurie,

As your property is free and clear, you can use a warranty deed in order to add your daughter's name to the property deed. It will be better if you could contact an attorney in order to get the warranty deed drafted as per your state laws.

Thanks

hello laurie o,

you would to have your attorney draw up a "quit claim deed" to deed half your interest to the party you want to deed that interest to. that deed will then be filed at the courthouse and that would be it. this will allow that person to have interest in the home, but, not be liable for the debt personally that may be on the home.
