My in-laws moved in with us in 2004 and we gave them a life estate deed to reduce our property taxes. We didn't file the deed with the appraisal district until 2007 for personal reasons. The school district denied the reduction for 2005 and 2006. How do we make a change to the date of transfer to January 1, 2006? That is the only way the school district will allow it because the appraisal district would only go back that far.
This is a legal issue and in my opinion you should contact a real estate attorney and he would help you in this regard. He would be the best person to let you know what steps you need to take.
