You can contact the county recorder's office in order to know whether or not the property sale took place. The property deeds would be recorded at the county recorder's office. You may even engage a title search company for the same.

real estate transactions are public record, so take james' advice and go check out with your recording office to make that determination. most of them are online now, and rochester is a big enough city to have their records online. try and search that way, and if unsuccessful, the local office can assist you.
