I just lost my mother who has a home that was mortaged through the USDA. There was not a will as her death was very unexpected. What steps need to be taken and what are the rights of the heirs?
The heirs can file an affidavit of heirship at the county recorder's office and get the property transferred in their names. Once the property is transferred, the heirs can refinance the loan in their name and start paying off the mortgage dues.
