Do I need an attorney in order to file a quit claim deed?

do i need an attorney in order to file a quit claim deed incident to a divorce? is a quit claim deed the best option to choose when you're in the process of getting a very high conflict cutody/divorce? my estranged spouse kicked me out of our house while i was in a domestic violence shelter for the 2nd time in 2007. he claims to be at least two mortgage payments behind and that foreclosure is imminent. we had this twindo built two years ago specifically to accomodate my disability. i have had multiple sclerosis for over 25 years and my only source of income is ssdi and ssi beneficiary money for our two children. if the house is forclosed on i will not be able to qualify for programs that would help me to buy a home as a first time homebuyer or for any other programs that would keep me from being locked into livng a life in poverty. there is no way that that house will sell for what we financed if for through two seperate mortgages. he has done absoluutely nothing to increase the value of the home although he had plenty of time to so. we had two lower level bedrooms framed out, that we sheetrocked and painted the colors our children chose. we even purchase padding and carpet for those rooms but that never happened. we had the lower level plumbed so there would also be a bathroom. we had a workshop area, a home office area and a family room framed out. nothing was ever done to those areas either. the upstairs had a quest room and bathroom as well as a master bedroom with a bathroom. we put in wood flooring on our own in both bathrooms and the kitchen as well as the front door entry. we had a gas line installled for a gas fireplace and we had a wall built to accomodate a very large aquarium. everything i needed easy access to, such as the washer and dryer were all on the upstairs level. we wired the home ourselves for home automation. nothing was ever done and to this day our 11 year old twin son and daughter share the quest room.
i want my name removed from any and all documents that keep me tied to a home in which i have not lived in since october of 2007.
Hi jsather!

Welcome to the Forums!

I completely understand your situation. Its a hard time that you are facing. But don't worry, everything will be alright. It is always better to hire an attorney and file a quitclaim deed because he will be able to tell you about the legal proceedings of the deed.

Feel free to ask if you have further queries.
