how do i add my name on deed?

Posted on: 23rd Dec, 2008 12:50 pm
boyfriend and i purchased a house in 2006, loan is in boyfriends name alone, we were going to add my name on deed, however as time went on, we never did. we want to add my name on deed/title to ensure in case of death of boyfriend, our home is all mine. i was told a quit claim deed is what we need to file, is that correct information?
Hi shanelllovelee!

Welcome to forums!

Yes, you can add your name to the title of the property with the help of a quitclaim deed. Your boyfriend needs to fill out a quitclaim deed giving you the ownership rights to the property.

Sample quitclaim deeds are available online but it is always better to draft the deed from an attorney. Once the deed is properly filled out, you will have to notarize it and record it at the county recorder's office.

Feel free to ask if you have further queries.

I need to add my name to a deed without taking off the actual owner

Hi Monica,

You can request the actual owner of the property to sign a quitclaim deed and add your name to the property deed.

Thanks
