Who may claim real estate taxes

Posted on: 10th Feb, 2009 02:01 pm
The house I lived in 2008 was listed by the county in my names until October 2008. The bank paid the real estate taxes during 2008. Can I claim the taxes on my taxe return or do the bank get to claim same? The bank was not listed as the ownere until October 2008.
Hi septasam,

I guess the bank is your lender and they are paying the taxes from the escrow account. But the mortgage and the property is in your name. In that case you will be able to claim the deductions on your tax returns.
