overdue prop taxes

my grandparents have been dead for over 10 yrs (Texas) my aunts/uncles never did probabte, were they supposed to? My grandparents are still listed as property owners eventhough my aunt has been living there for many years. I believe there are back taxes due but due to family discord no one is saying how much is owed, can I find out through the internet? Other family members seem to think my aunt doesn't care if the property goes to foreclosure because she plans to live with a niece. If someone pays the taxes do they own the property? I apologize for all the questions but I just got wind of the situation and I don't know how to help out my other aunt. I live out of state
thank you for whatever info you can provide..
Hi idatex!

Welcome to forums!

If your grandparents left back a will, then your uncle and aunts should have probated the will in order to get the property transferred in their names. You can contact the tax department in order to find out whether or not they owed any back taxes on the property. Paying taxes doesn't mean that the person owns the property.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

Welcome idatex,

Yes, it is true that paying the taxes only doesn't mean that a person owns the property. In order to be the owners of the property, the person's name should be mentioned on the property deed.

This is a continuation of Overdue Prop Taxes. Yes, approx $1,080 is due by the end of this month. We just found out about it. Can someone other than the person living in the home pay the taxes, and if so will they have any rights as to what is done w/said property? Is it too late to do a probate? If so who can initiate it..does it have to be one of my other aunts/uncles or can it be a grandchild? Thank you.

Hi idatex!

Welcome back to forums!

Glad to know that my reply was helpful to you!! :)

Someone other than the person staying in the property may be able to pay off the taxes. I don't think there will be any issues in this regard. However, as stated earlier just paying the taxes once won't give anyone rights to the ownership of the property.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
