Why have I been served foreclosure papers and my name is not on the loan?

I was served foreclosure papers today and my name is not on the loan. Why is this? Will this affect my credit?

If your name is not on the mortgage docs, then you shouldn't have received the foreclosure papers. Nevertheless, the lender may have sent you the papers if your name is on the property deed. If you're not liable for the mortgage, then the foreclosure won't affect your credit in any way. You should contact the lender and clarify the matter.

It is surprising that you have been served with foreclosure papers when your name is not mentioned on the mortgage docs. But I agree with what Sussane has said. The foreclosure won't have any kind of negative affect on your credit report.
