USMAC Law Group - Is it a loan modification scam?

Posted on: 09th Jan, 2009 04:37 pm
Have anyone heard of ( Elect Group,LLC in Coral Springs FL.)
Iam in default for about 3000.00 on my loan with 8.5 fixed rate.
They wont 1.995 up front .To begin paper work on a loan modification
said that they should beable get me 4.fixed rat. Do anyone thank that this might be a scam[/b]
 :( :!:

Me and my husband saw the advertisement on the television and called the 1800 number to see if we could qualify for a loan modification-name of agency-The USMAC Law Group. Spoke to the person at the end who was very persuasive. He wanted to charge us $3947 total and upfront prior to starting any services, but we did not have it. Said if paid money upfront would knock off $300. Informed him we would consider next month. Was told he could offer us two financing solutions to cover the above amount- which were to pay the above amount in 3 installments or to pay $795 upfront and then finance the 3000 over a six month period. We were like heck no!!! told him would reconsider next month. Just googled the law group online and now believe it is a scam. I am so happy my husband was nervous and did not really believe they could do it, especially with the upfront costs. Please see research found below:

Infomed him by email that the above website said they were not on here.

2. http://www.la.bbb.org/businessreport.aspx?companyid=13128667 Could not find USMAC Law group but difnd Christian Dillion who is an attorney at this agency.

See Alyssa Katz, Predatory Lending With a Smiley Face (Mar. 3, 2004) (describing mortgage and real estate broker involvement in loan modification industry),

Other loan modification entities have connections to the defunct subprime mortgage industry. For example, USMAC, which charges clients a non-refundable fee of $3,495 to negotiate a loan modification, is owned, in part, by the president of Citywide Mortgage, a former subprime lender. (#2 is the most important-the address to Christian Dillion is the same as the address found below by USMAC- see reviews here!!)

   Also emailed him, informing him that I tried his work number as he gave me a work number and the work number always went to voicemail. I was able to reach him through a (714) cell phone number. His information is Edwin L. Stevenson Jr.

Fact: USMAC LAW GROUP has modified over 5,000 loans for folks that have paid for the SERVICE of a law group. Fact: If you som choose to fight your own lender be prepared to keep them in the drivers seat and allow your car to hit the wall at 100 miles an hour. Fact: You may call U Haul, try to locate an apartment you now won;t qualify for because your credit and income is shot, but you still are reluctant to do business without doing your homework. Fact: ask for BAR numbers, ask for evidence about seeing these successful MODS that can be produced within minutes. Fact: USMAC will not hide the facts. You want frewe service from the FEDS, three of four homes are lost through these programs, your lender may put a bvandaid on your issue only to have you fail months later and take your home. Fact: anyone that has paid USMAC money and lost their home and purports it as a scam, were too far gone to even throw a desperate hail Mary pass and paid the take a shot. You obvisouly wanted to save your home. Fact: USMAC specializes in modifying loans only not in saving a home you let go yourself. So if you inclined to bad mouth something that works go do it yourself and buy into those same devils that got you into the mess in the first place. Perhaps you might want to take some responsibility for yourself.

I recently called them after seeing an informercial on tv and it is a total SCAM. I spoke with someone by the name of Frank Mamoine and he was asking me for $3800 to process a Loan modification for me. At first i went on with believing that they were a Legit company since they spend millions of dollars advertising but when i was asked to provide him with my Bank Account Information (Routing Number & Account Number) over the phone so that he can start the process and that i didn't even need to go sign any documents personally that is when i knew this was a "SCAM". After i searched further regarding their company i seen that this company has a "Horrible" History with Ripping people off and when i asked Frank he stated that the person that was committing Fraud is an Attorney by the name of Christian M Dillon and that he was fired in August of 2009 and his License is not currently active but that i could trust him. I am glad i was able to suspect that something was not right with asking me for my Bank Information over the phone and didn't process anything with them. Be very Careful cause it seems like I was almost their next Victim. I have already processed my Loan Modification with another Law Firm. Hopefully eveything goes well and if it does I will Post it.

Everything written above is about half true. I have extensive personal experience. I contacted my lender Metlife, both my agent and the actual lender office, about Loan Modification and I was told it was impossible, that the lender wouldn't even think in terms of load modification. I saw an ad and contacted the Dillon law firm ("Dillon") and paid them $3500 in two montly payments to convince Metlife to mod my loan. I got a guarantee.

Metlife is impossible to work with. They are one of the most obstinate. It dragged on for months and months. The Dillon people were certainly trying, I could tell. But they were too busy and sometimes it was nearly impossible to get a response from them. I only got to talk to an actual attorney once. And the contacts were notw with USMAC. Then, finally, I got a Forbearance offer from Metlife. It was ok (reduced my monthly payment by about $500). I went through 3 Forbearance payments and then never got an offer from Metlife. I went straight back to Dillon, but it was officially USMAC, and I heard Dillon was out of business. I had to sign a USMAC agreement for them to continue working on it. Since then, they have been VERY unresposive. Metlife again hit my credit report with a new 120-day late notice. I am about to hire an attorney and sue them all.

I was in desperate need of help. I saw the add. Looked up the company and saw nothing but bad things. I realized that usually, happy people don't blog about how great it was. I decided to call them and trust my instincts. I'm glad I did. They were professional and understanding. They were able to get a modification done for me and save my home. I'm saving almost $1200 per month and got my rate fixed for 30 yrs. People complain and say horrible things about this company without even talking to them. Nobody verifies any of the negative things said. Don't be a follower and lose your home. Find out for yourself.

saved me 1446.00 a month. hud is a joke. called them and they were worthless. you get what you pay for...so dont bother w/them. i didnt have the time to cut through the red tape at bank of america...so i paid someone to do it and got results. perhaps others were burned by them, but i can only speak on my experience.

if you have to pay money out of pocket upfront, you're not going to get good service. what is a company's motivation to work on your case to your advantage when it's already been paid? some of these outfits may not be scammers, but they sure do penalize folk with their upfront insistence on payment.

and here's the big question: if you cannot pay your mortgage, how are you going to come up with the exorbitant amount of money that these outfits seek? does this really, truly, honestly make sense to anyone?

Hi james,

I don't think it's a good option to contact a loan modification company and apply for it. It would be better for you to contact your lender and check out with him.
