How do I add my wifes name onto our property deed? i purchased it before we were married.
my partner needs ex wife taken off house title.does this cost money.

Hi narelle,

Your partner will have to ask the ex-wife to sign a quit claim deed and transfer the property to him. He may have to pay the deed recording fees, stamp docs, etc. while recording the deed at the county recorder's office.

My husband and I got married last year and we were wondering how to add my name to the deed, how much would that cost, who do we contact, and is that the best way to go just in case anything should happen?

Hi Tammy,

You should ask your husband to sign a quit claim deed and add your name to the property deed. Your husband would be the grantor of the property and your name and your husband's name will be mentioned as the grantee to it. You can contact an attorney and he will help you in drafting the property deed. The cost of the deed and other fees will vary from state to state.

Welcome bob,

If the property is solely in your brother's name, then you won't be able to claim any ownership to that property. If a portion of the property in your father's name, then you can file an affidavit of heirship and get that portion of the property transferred in your name.

Mortgage and Deed in two names, want to remove one name from deed. i was told by mortgage company If I want to assume the existing mortgage in my name only I must first remove 2nd name from my deed and can do this with other parties permission. If thats true can I remove the other parties name and leave the loan as is. Realizing of course the home is still subject to same rules etc.

Hi Kathy,

You should ask the other person to sign a quitclaim deed and get the property transferred in your name. Once you do so, you will become the owner of the property and then you can assume the mortgage in your name.

Thanks

I live in Michigan and purchased my home while going through a divorce. I am the sole owner on the deed. Now that my divorce is final, I took back my maiden name. What do I need to do to the deed to put it in my new name? Thank you

Hi Anntoinette,

You will have to sign a new quitclaim deed wherein you should mention your married name as the grantor and the maiden name as the grantee. This will help you get the property transferred in your maiden name.

Thanks
