Problem with joint owner of house

Problem with joint owner of house

I am co-owner of house with former son-in-law. As I am single we agreed to live in home with his family (my daughter/children). After divorce he and I continued to live in home (daughter and family moved out). Due to his unstable employment record, I assumed full responsibilty for mortgage/taxes/insurance. He decided to vacate property (without notice) while I was out of state. He has since informed me he wants nothing to do with property and wants to be completely removed from paperwork (mortgage/deed etc). I continue to reside in home and pay all obligations. I want to keep house but unable to refinance at this time in order to have paperwork in my name only. Do I have any other recourse to try and remedy this situation.

You can ask your former son-in-law to stay on the paperwork and share the payments, till the time you're assured you can take on this responsibility comfortably. Or else, you can consult an attorney to figure out a middle path for both of you.

He can potentially force a sale to get his half but not unless he takes you to court and gets their approval - tough situation - you can sale and start over - or find another coborrower -    Good Luck Brian Barnes Mortgages in all 50 States  Brian@AimWithFocus.com - all emails answered -
